‘Tuca & Bertie’ Lands Animation Honors at 2022 Writers Guild Awards

Cartoon Network’s popular series about two millennial bird women wins out over ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Bob’s Burgers’ and ‘Family Guy’ at Sunday’s virtual ceremony.

The Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) announced their 2022 Writers Guild Awards for outstanding achievement in writing for film, television, new media, news, radio/audio, and promotional categories at a joint, virtual ceremony held Sunday, March 20.

The Tuca & Bertie episode “Planteau,” written by Lisa Hanawalt, took home the award in Animation:

  • “An Incon-Wheelie-ent Truth” (Bob’s Burgers), Written by Dan Fybel; Fox
  • “Loft in Bedslation” (Bob’s Burgers), Written by Jameel Saleem, Fox
  • “Must Love Dogs” (Family Guy), Written by Daniel Peck; Fox
  • “Planteau” (Tuca & Bertie), Written by Lisa Hanawalt; Cartoon Network – WINNER
  • “Portrait of a Lackey on Fire” (The Simpsons), Written by Rob LaZebnik & Johnny LaZebnik; Fox
  • “The Star of the Backstage” (The Simpsons), Written by Elisabeth Kiernen Averick; Fox
