This week in AWN's Forums, a member recommends new book "Get Animated!" by Tim Maloney. Another member is looking for a Thursday Comic-Con pass that someone might want to sell or trade for another day? Anyone? A Canadian wants to know how many fellow Canucks will be at the Con. On traditional/flash animated projects, is there a specific way you are able to manage your digital assets like character designs, poses, animation, etc.? A member wants to know.

Brad Garrett Developing Animated Comedy

Comedian and actor Brad Garrett is developing a half-hour animated comedy for Sony Pictures TV called DUMB BUNNY AND JACKASS, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The project is adults-only and is targeted for cable, based on the characters created by Bill Kopp (EEK! THE CAT and TOONSYLVANIA). The story follows the most popular cartoon duo in history after their fall from stardom.

Garrett is attached to voice one of the two leads and exec produce via his banner, Mope Productions. Glenn Robbins and Doug Wald are also set to exec produce with Kopp as a co-exec producer.

2nd International Animated Film Festival Animator 2009

Animator 2009 offers film retrospectives of renowned animators, premieres, concerts, meetings with artists, exhibitions, performances, workshops and a range of special and thematic screenings, including screenings with live music, outdoor screenings, screenings for children and the open international competition for animated films up to 30 minutes with Grand Prix of 60,000 PLN/12,000 Euros. The entry form and regulations can be downloaded from www.animator-festival.com

Final deadline is April 30.

Neum Animated Film Festival 2009

The Neum Animated Film Festival will take place from June 29-July 5 in Neum. The festival has two parts: a "working" festival where children can learn animation techniques, and the competition section of the festival where cartoons from all over the world are presented.

Cartoon selection is done by children who attend the working festival, and make decisions about all awards except for the Jury award.

Animated series LIFEBOAT LUKE, 52 x 5 minutes, a search and rescue adventure series for kids 4-7 from Irish-based LTL Productions.

BEN & IZZY, 13 x half hour, a state-of-the-art CGI animation series (for ages 6-11) that follows the adventures of two kids: one from Jordan and one from the United States, and their genie friend, voiced by Lucy Liu, produced by Middle-Eastern based Rubicon.

Athletes, Artists Join Voices in Animated Story Of Nostalgia And Hope

New York, June 17, 2009 -- An All-Star cast of entertainers and Baseball Hall of Famers are providing the voices of characters for a long-awaited animated film based on a best-selling children's book, "One Last Time: Good-Bye to Yankee Stadium."

The animated film, called "Henry And Me," features Richard Gere and Reggie Jackson. It is in production with a screenplay by David Stern and scheduled for release next Spring.

Animated Feature in Pipeline at Unique Features

A year after forming Unique Features at Warner Bros., Bob Shaye and longtime partner Michael Lynne have announced a slate of 11 films, per VARIETY.

Those projects include their first animated film with an original score by Paul McCartney. Titled HIGH IN THE CLOUDS, the film is an adaptation of a children's book written by McCartney, Geoff Dunbar and Philip Ardagh. Rob Minkoff will direct and Caroline Thompson will adapt.

The story follows a squirrel's quest to find an animal sanctuary.

DUCK's Kompost Helped Dixie Trixi Win By A Nose

For the recent Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film, five teams each consisting of two members, developed an animated film within 48 hours. Top honors were given to DIXIE TRIXI, a short film directed by DUCK's Kompost.

Each team used the same character, Trixi, the festival's mascot to tell a short story between :30 seconds and 2 minutes. Animation students from international film schools, as well as independent animators and producers, 30 years or younger qualified for participation.

Comedy Central Orders Ugly Americans, Foxx Toon & More

Comedy Central has announced its 2009-2010 development slate, which includes a seven-episode order for the animated series UGLY AMERICANS. Developed and exec produced by David Stern (THE SIMPSONS), UGLY AMERICANS (working title) is a half-hour animated series based on an original idea by illustrator Devin Clark, who will serve as a producer. UGLY AMERICANS takes place in an alternate universe New York City where creatures from horror, fantasy and science-fiction live among us as ordinary citizens.

Comic and Psychedelic Art at Stuttgart

A handful of top-class artists who have been greatly influenced by the animated film genre will be present at the Galerienhaus during the upcoming 16th Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (May 5-10, 2009). In addition to specially chosen multimedia artists from the region, the Japanese designer Keiichi Tanaami and the internationally popular German-Japanese Kota Ezawa will be presenting their works.

The call for entries has begun for the eighth edition of the International Festival of Animated Films. AniFest 2009 will be held in two different locations, Trebon from May 1-4, 2009 and Teplice from May 7-10, 2009.

A written application and a copy of the film on DVD or VHS needs to be delivered to the organizer's registered office no later than December 16, 2008.

The requirements for the Internet Animation competition are specified below. The deadline for entering films into the Internet competition is January 19, 2009.

Raimund Krumme -- Play for Lines and Figures

For the first time ever in Germany, an exhibition is presenting Raimund Krumme's work including drawn phases from his animated films, graphically impressive, playful studies on paper as well as examples of his filmic output. The exhibition has been running since 17th April at the Technische Sammlungen Dresden technical collection museum where it will continue until 27th September 2009.

TBS Picks up New Animated Comedy Neighbors From Hell

Cable network TBS has ordered 10 episodes of NEIGHBORS FROM HELL, a half-hour animated sitcom from 20th Century Fox TV and DreamWorks Animation, per VARIETY.

This is Fox TV's first attempt at producing an animated show for cable, and continues DreamWorks efforts to get into primetime animation. The studio last had the short-lived FATHER OF THE PRIDE on NBC in 2004.

TBS will pair the new show, about an clean-cut American suburban family that just happens to be from Hell, with reruns of FAMILY GUY.
