Australia Highlight At Seoul Festival

As part of the official program of the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival, the Australian Embassy will support an Australian animation showcase with a series of internationally recognized animated shorts from Australia. Films include Bruce Petty's LEISURE (Academy Award winner for best animated short in 1976), Adam Elliot's HARVIE KRUMPET (Academy Award winner for best animated short 2004) and Park Sejong's BIRTHDAY BOY (Oscar nomination for best animation short 2005). In addition to the screenings, Australian animation experts will host discussions during the event.

Palm Springs Festival of Shorts Rolls Out The Animation

Numerous animated flicks will be on the big screen at this year's Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, to be held from September 20 to 26 at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs.

The fest has announced its roster of 324 films, selected from more than a record-setting 2,400 worldwide entries, up 10% from last year. It will showcase 86 world premieres, 27 North American premieres and 15 U.S. premieres. Some of the animated films:

Amelia Bedford to Manage BKN Brands in U.K.

Amelia Bedford joins BKN International A.G. as brand manager for the U.K. responsible for licensing in the U.K. across the range of BKN's brands, including LEGEND OF THE DRAGON, KONG - THE ANIMATED SERIES and KONG: KING OF ATLANTIS. She joins the New Media team and will help coordinate and implement marketing and promotional activity.

Bedford was senior brand manager at HIT Ent., working on renowned brands Angelina Ballerina and Barney. Prior to that she worked at Jetix Consumer Products as U.K. licensing manager.

Animated Hanuman Gets Major Theatrical Release in India

Sahara Percept is set to make a major theatrical push for Silvertoons 2D animated feature, HANUMAN, reports ANIMATION 'XPRESS.

Sahara Motion Pictures coo Sandeep Bhargava said, "We are treating the 2D animated feature Hanuman as a mainstream release and will be giving it a full push on our part. We hope that the movie will be appreciated. For HANUMAN, we have a slew of marketing innovations and ground activities planned across the country. We also plan to develop and market merchandise around the movie.

Shane Acker has landed an animation student's dream. Focus Features has agreed to turn his student short 9 into an animated feature with Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov (Russian director of NIGHT WATCH) and Jim Lemley (exec producer of RED EYE) producing, reports the trades. Acker will even get to direct. Focus president of production John Lyons will shepherd the film.

BKN Does King Kong Deals & Expands USA Activities

BKN International A.G. has signed a number of licensing deals with partners in the U.S. on KONG - THE ANIMATED SERIES AND the animated film, KONG - KING OF ATLANTIS, which is in line with BKN plans to significantly expand its U.S. activities over the next 12-18 months.

Disney ABC Cable Networks Group has licensed BKN's KONG - KING OF ATLANTIS film and KONG - THE ANIMATED SERIES properties. The series will premiere this fall on Jetix, the action/adventure programming block that airs during primetime on Toon Disney and mornings on ABC Family.

Mexico’s Anima Estudios Launches Second Feature

Anima Estudios has announced with the support of Fidecine Mexico the release of its second feature animated film, IMAGINUM. The film will be released in theaters nationwide in August 2005, distributed by Videocine, the movie production and distribution company of Televisa.

The main characters are voiced by Eugenio Derbez (Mexico´s most popular comedian), Giovanni Florido, Ilse Olivo and Ruben Trujillo.
