The Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship

Nickelodeon is offering writing fellowships in live-action and animated television to culturally and ethnically diverse, new writers. Participants will have hands-on experience writing spec scripts and pitching story ideas.

The program, developed to broaden Nickelodeon's outreach efforts, provides a salaried position for up to one year. The '07 - '08 cycle is tentatively scheduled to begin in Oct. 2007.

The next submission period runs from Jan. 2 -- Feb. 28, 2007. Applications and submission guidelines are available at www.nickwriting.com.

Humanitas Deadline April 1

Time is running out to submit scripts from TV and film productions for The Humanitas Prize, which affirms human values in entertainment. Animation writers may compete for $10,000 in the children's teleplay category. TV programs must have been broadcast between April 2, 2004 and April 1, 2005 to qualify. Feature films must have screened in at least 60 U.S. markets or at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.

HypeFest Extends Late Submission Deadline To May 9

April showers have brought May extensions for HypeFest, which has moved its late submission deadline to May 9, 2003. HypeFest, a new film festival that links independent ideas with commercial creativity, is accepting short films (50 minutes or less), commercials, music videos and promos for its premiere event, which will take place July 25-27, 2003 at Cinespace in Hollywood, California.

Digifest is an annual festival focussing on interactive digital media. The up-coming Digifest will host a design competition called "New Voices" where New Media artists are invited to submit innovative ideas within Film, Web, 3D animation and Digital Gaming. The winners will be given the opportunity to present their work at this four day festival, as well their submission will be printed in the annual Digifest catalogue. The New Voices submission deadline is December 1, 2002. Winners will be notified in January, 2003 and the festival will be held on March 26 - 29, 2003.

Bay Area Siggraph Chapter Calls For Animation

The San Francisco ACM SIGGRAPH Professional Chapter is calling for participants to submit animation of up to 3 minutes for a screening during the March meeting, to be held in San Jose, California on March 7, 2003, in conjunction with the Game Developer's Conference. This screening is open to both students and those just entering the industry. Submission content can be any of the following: 3D models, concept art, lighting, texturing, level design, effects animation, compositing and character animation.

Oscar Credits And Music Submission Forms Are Due December 2

Monday, December 2, 2002 is the deadline for both the official screen credits forms and music award submission forms to be received by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Music is traditionally a strong field for animated films. "If I Didn't Have You" from MONSTERS, INC. won Best Original Song in 2001 and many animated features including BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, LION KING and POCAHONTAS have won for both Original Song and Original Score.
