Animation Mentor Unveils First Student Showcase Reel

Animation Mentor, the online animation school, unveiled its first student showcase reel today, Aug. 16, 2006. Visitors to the site can view the inaugural online exhibition of student work from foundation classes one through four (previous site guests need to empty their cache). From Aug. 16-18, the reel can be seen all day and night, except 7:00-10:00 pm, PST. Beginning Aug.18, it will be accessible 24/7.

Crystal Reel Awards Celebrates the Best in Florida Filmmaking

The Florida Motion Picture and Television Association (FMPTA) is hosting the Crystal Reel Awards (CRA). The Crystal Reel Awards have been compared to Floridas version of the Oscars and the Emmys with many different categories (behind and in front of the camera) from students to professionals. Entries are limited to work produced in the State of Florida between Jan. 1, and Dec. 31, 2005.

Pharos Capital Invests $8 Million in Reel FX

Pharos Capital Group LLC of Nashville and Dallas, has invested $8 million in Reel FX Inc. Based in Dallas, privately held Reel FX provides computer-generated 3D animation and visual effects in the broadcast, feature film, computer and videogame and advertising industries. The company also specializes in the development, production and brand management of family-friendly programming and has a number of active projects including feature films, television and direct-to-DVD series.

da Vinci Launches Master Colorist Awards Competition

da Vinci Systems launched its first annual Master Colorist Awards competition. The company is now accepting submissions in four categories and will feature the winning show reels at the NAB2004 exhibition, April 19-22, in Las Vegas. In addition, winning colorists in the TV and long form, theatrical release, commercial and music video categories will receive a trophy and three days of all-expenses-paid training with Kevin Shaw, the company's director of training, at da Vinci's facilities in Coral Springs, Fla.

"This competition is designed to showcase the innovation, creativity, and skill with which our clients have put da Vinci products to work," said da Vinci vp of marketing and product management Matthew Straeb. "Post houses and other creative firms are continually finding new ways to use our film enhancement and restoration tools. We look forward to highlighting these achievements on the worldwide stage provided by NAB2004."

The 5th Annual Crested Butte Reel Fest is a competitive short film festival located in the beautiful mountain resort town of Crested Butte, Colorado. The Reel Fest focuses on films under 40 minutes in the categories of Animation, comedy, drama, experimental and science fiction. Also documentaries under 60 minutes.

Deadlines: Regular entries by March 22, 2002. Student entries by May 10, 2002.
